Arts
The arts permeate life at Commonwealth. Our walls are covered with the
visual art of students and faculty, and our studios and darkroom are
busy throughout the day, with students using their free periods as well
as class time to work.
Students learn painting and drawing, printmaking
and photography, ceramics, acting, dance, and music from teachers who
are professionals in their fields.
Faculty and staff sing alongside
students in the chorus and chorale and play in the jazz band, and these
groups' concerts, like the fall and spring plays and the spring
all-school art show, are major occasions that draw crowds of parents
and friends. Some students pursue rigorous arts programs outside school
(through the Boston Ballet School and the New England Conservatory,
among others), and some graduates have gone on to careers in acting,
music, dance, or art.
Slide Shows : art by students, alumni, faculty, and parents, displayed at shows during Commonwealth's 50th Anniversary celebrations.
