CALL FOR NOMINATIONS The Commonwealth School Board of Trustees and the Commonwealth School Alumni/ae Association are seeking nominees for the following two positions.
• Alumni/ae Trustee – to serve a 3-year term on the Board of Trustees
• Alumni/ae Association Member-at-Large– to serve a 3-year term on the Board of the Alumni/ae Association
Nominations must be received by March 20, 2009 and elections will be held in April. Both terms of service begin in May 2009.
Please submit the names of candidates for one or both positions by emailing Janetta Stringfellow, Director of Development, at jstringfellow@commschool.org.
Self-nominations are welcomed. Description of PositionsAlumni/ae TrusteeThe position of Alumni/ae Trustee requires the elected alumnus/a to attend the Board of Trustees meetings scheduled four times throughout the academic year (October, December, February, May). Meetings are customarily held on Wednesday afternoons in the school library. There are at all times 3 Alumni/ae Trustees on the Board, each serving 3-year terms in staggered appointments. As a member of the Board, the alumnus/a is asked to contribute to meetings informally, as well as to participate on one of a number of subcommittees (e.g., the Finance Committee, Committee on Trustees, Development Committee). The work-flow and schedule of such subcommittees will be determined by the members and head of each. All trustees are expected to assist with the Annual Fund by soliciting a handful of people in their constituency and by making a gift themselves. While it is hoped that all 3 Alumni/ae Trustees will become involved in the work of the Commonwealth School Alumni/ae Association (CWSAA), one of the 3 Alumni/ae Trustees will be asked to become a formal member of the CWSAA Board and will function as liaison to the Board of Trustees as to the ongoing work of the group. The CWSAA, as a separate entity with its own President, Vice-President, etc., meets regularly throughout the year, working to build community and strengthen the School through fostering connections among the alumni/ae and between the alumni/ae and the School. Lastly, in reflecting upon and participating anew in the life of the School, other opportunities for meaningful contribution and participation will naturally arise and can be seized if and when the Alumni/ae Trustee so chooses. Member-at-Large to the Board of the Commonwealth School Alumni/ae Association (CWSAA)The CWSAA was formed in 2003 to build community, strengthen the School, and foster connections among the alumni/ae and between the alumni/ae and the School. The CWSAA board represents the alumni/ae in matters relating to the School and develops and guides the implementation of alumni/ae programs, including the new mentoring/networking program based in the website. Members-at-Large of the CWSAA attend regularly scheduled meetings (monthly or every other month) held at the School. As a member of the CWSAA Board, the alumnus/a is asked to contribute to meetings and to the efforts of the group on a number of different projects and events that make up the core outreach efforts of the group. The nature of the work often requires ongoing dialogue over email among members of the group. The work-flow and schedule of tasks will be determined by the participating members. Because the Alumni/ae Association is still in its beginning stages, it is hoped that the Member-at-Large would approach this work with a real commitment to the mission of the newly established association, ready and willing to offer new ideas.
