CWSAA Update

October, 2009

Greetings Alumni/ae!

On behalf of the Commonwealth School Alumni/ae Association, I want to update you on what the association board is doing. With the past leadership of Melissa Haber ’87 and the energy and enthusiasm of Janetta Stringfellow, we are gaining momentum on our mission of creating an active and self-sustaining alumni/ae community. We have continued to build an alumni/ae network through communication (the website, newsletters and publications); events which showcase the talents and concerns of our alumni/ae (last winter’s Merrill Series panel on the transition from campaign to governing and the upcoming November film festival); and class and decade reunions.

We have three goals for this year: to increase the membership of our board by adding five to six new members; improve the overall voice of the association through a stronger presence on the School website, Facebook, newsletters, etc.; and ensure that alumni/ae events appeal to a broad audience. These goals emerged from our discussions about how we can best serve our alumni/ae in support of the School, and I encourage you to share them with other alumni/ae, and to let us know what you think.

We would also like your help as we explore new ways to broaden our community. Our ideas include an alumni/ae lunch with Bill Wharton, more encouragement for alumni/ae to attend Assemblies and arts events, and alumni/ae visits to classes, all as opportunities for us to see the school as it is today. Let us know if you have other ideas about how to create meaningful ways for alumni/ae to reconnect with Commonwealth.

Please let me know if you’d like to:

  • Join the CWSAA Board (we meet monthly at the School during the academic year)
  • Help us plan an event (Merrill Series, art show, film festival, reunion)
  • Write or provide a piece for a newsletter
  • Host an alumni/ae dinner

Please check the alumni/ae calendar for upcoming events, including arts and assemblies. On behalf of the CWSAA Board, I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
