Adam Cvijanovic's Colossal Spectacle
23 minutes, 2008 (Documentary)
A film by Federico Muchnik P’11
Screening:
Saturday, 4:40 p.m. and Sunday, 2:00 p.m.
The
film documents the work of Cambridge native but NY-based fine artist Adam
Cvijanovic as he prepares and installs a major work in Chelsea's Bellwether
Gallery in the spring of ‘08. The work, a monumental series of panels rising 20
feet into the air, references D.W. Griffith's silent classic "Intolerance."
Griffith's film features a sequence called The Fall of Babylon, and it is this
sequence that Adam chose to cycle from the film into painting. The film
includes footage of Adam at work and in interviews, scenes from Griffith's
film, footage of the installation going up, and the art opening.
Federico Muchnick P'11
has taught filmmaking at Emerson and Boston University. His national
work includes co-authoring and acting the lead role in Raul Ruiz’s “The
Golden Boat”, which was produced by Focus Features’ James Schamus. It
was his first feature length film and was shown at the Sundance, New
York, and Toronto Film Festivals. Other national work includes a short
film aired on HBO called “You’re Not Telling Me Everything Mrs.
Malloy”, a comedy he wrote and directed in 16mm. He's also written and
produced two radio plays, “Meetings” and “The Parent Company”, aired
nationally on NPR’s American Radio Theatre. WGBH and PBS kept him busy
for two years when he produced “Destinos, An Introduction To Spanish”,
working alongside TV great Fred Barzyk and learning his approach to a
creative and successful production. He recently won – (first award!) -
a 2008 Telly for writer/director of Best Short Comedy. For the last
four years, Federico has been the director of (and teaching at)
CDIABU’s film program.
