Parents

Read an update from Headmaster Bill Wharton highlighting many student accomplishments and honors of the past year.

Parents are a vital part of the Commonwealth community, and we welcome their knowledge and expertise. Parents work with teachers, especially their child's faculty advisor, to support progress through the School's rigorous curriculum, to help identify and overcome setbacks along the way, and to celebrate triumphs.

More broadly, current and former parents play major roles in the school community. The Parents Committee supports the School by organizing events and activities that welcome new families, thank faculty and staff for their work, and share wisdom on the college admissions process. Parents also:

  • Mentor students, or help find mentors, for Project Week and Senior Projects
  • Speak at Assemblies
  • Contact and talk with prospective parents during the admissions process
  • Contribute dishes to the annual Diversity Day lunch
  • Help to raise funds for the School

Current and past parents serve on the Board of Trustees.

Use the links on the left to learn more about the Parents Committee and other topics of interest. You are also invited to contact Janetta Stringfellow, the parent liaison, at jstringfellow@commschool.org.
