Meet Atticus

Before Commonwealth: McGlynn Middle School

Commonwealth was part of Atticus’s life long before he began 9th grade, though because his sister had graduated from the school it seemed an exotic place to him. He says that when he first walked in the door as a student, everything felt “a bit surreal.” But Atticus soon found his “own” Commonwealth and quickly found much to love about life here:

Commonwealth students love nothing more than diving into a conversation. In class, debate often begins even before the teacher arrives:

Commonwealth encourages students to become more independent and more aware. Yearly projects, jobs at Hancock, starting or running a club--all show how closely responsibilities and freedom are intertwined. Sometimes, though, freedom is as simple as being able to go out for pizza with friends:
