Clubs and teams

Commonwealth has a long tradition of student-run clubs and teams. They always enrich the atmosphere of social and community engagement at the school; occasionally they effect more substantial change in how the school operates. These activities vary from year to year depending on the interest of students.

Some 2008–09 clubs and teams include:

  • Diversity Committee, which discusses issues related to culture and ethnicity inside and outside the School. This group of about 25 students also organizes the annual Diversity Day, an all-school event with speakers, workshops, and discussion.
  • Environmental Club, which initiated and oversees the School's recycling and composting program.
  • Chess Club (pictured at right), winner of the 2008 Hurvitz Cup, the Massachusetts State Scholastic Team Championship.
  • Current Events
  • Debate Team
  • Improv
  • Knitting Club
  • Literary Magazine
  • Model United Nations
  • Outing Club
  • Science Team
