Dive In Commonwealth
This summer, Commonwealth School will launch Dive In Commonwealth, a tuition-free academic enrichment program for promising, highly motivated middle school students from underserved backgrounds in Boston and its surrounding communities. We are currently accepting applications for this summer 2019.
Dive In Commonwealth will prepare middle school students of exceptional promise for success at Commonwealth, a rigorous independent high school in the heart of Boston.
Consonant with the school’s founding philosophy, Dive In Commonwealth will fully reflect, serve, and engage with its surrounding community. Students who demonstrate readiness for and interest in entering Commonwealth at the end of the program will join the school’s ninth grade class in September 2020. Upon completion of four years of high school, these students will be prepared to thrive in highly competitive colleges and universities. Need-based financial aid will ensure the affordability of a Commonwealth education to Dive In Commonwealth participants.
Up to eight rising eighth-graders will be admitted to Dive In Commonwealth. These students will attend six-week summer programs after their seventh- and eighth-grade years, as well as Saturday sessions throughout eighth grade.
Each day will be modeled after Commonwealth’s academic program and will include classes focused on reading, writing, and mathematics. Humanities courses will help students to develop strong vocabulary and grammar skills, as well as improved reading comprehension across all disciplines. In math courses, students will develop facility in arithmetic and will receive instruction in pre-algebra and algebra. Students will be introduced to computer programming, fundamentals of science, and history. They will also participate in a range of arts activities and take field trips around Boston.
Each day, students will attend
classes and supervised study halls, where tutorial support will be provided. Students will also enjoy lunch, recreational activities, and field trips around the city.
The first summer program
will run from Monday – Friday
