How to Apply

Welcome to Commonwealth School's application process! We can’t wait to get to know you better through your interview and application. View our Virtual Admissions FAQs.

Step 1: Request Information

If you are considering admission for the fall of 2021 and beyond, start by filling out an online inquiry form. We will send you a viewbook and keep you up to date on virtual admissions events.

Note: While our application deadlines for 2021-2022 academic year have passed, we may be in a position to consider additional applicants on a case-by-case basis.

Step 2: Attend an Online Admissions Event

The health and safety of our students and families—future as well as current—is our top priority. In light of the current conditions, we have moved all of our fall and winter admissions events online. While it’s not a required part of the process, in order to get a feel for the school before applying, we encourage you to join us for an event.

Step 3: Schedule An Interview

We invite you to join us for an online interview and virtual tour. You will meet with a member of the admissions committee and get a sense of what sets us apart.

Step 4: Apply

Commonwealth uses an online application system called Ravenna. Start by registering with Ravenna, creating a basic profile, and selecting "Commonwealth School" from the School Directory. (We also offer the option of downloading and printing an application to fill out by hand.) The application fee is $60 for U.S. residents and $120 for international applicants. If the application fee presents a challenge to your family, please contact our office to request a fee waiver, and we will gladly extend one.

Step 5: “Visit” for the Day

After your interview, you'll spend a day attending online classes, our all-school meeting, and lunch with a student host. In lieu of writing admissions essays at home, you’ll also complete two assessments during your day visit—your first Commonwealth assignments, so to speak. You can schedule your day visit through Ravenna or by contacting Assistant Director of Admissions Natasha Matthews.

Please note that we require international applicants to submit SSAT and/or TOEFL scores before scheduling a day visit.

Step 6: Submit Additional Materials

As part of your application, you will need to submit a transcript, three school recommendations, and other materials. You’ll find detailed instructions below:

Step 7: Respond to the Admissions Decision

All admissions and financial aid decisions are released on March 10. Students and families then have until April 10 to respond. You will also be invited to join us for special events where you can consider Commonwealth through the lens of an admitted student!
