Admissions Process

At Commonwealth, we’re looking for intellectually curious and creative students from a wide range of backgrounds. We encourage you to visit the school, talk with teachers and students, and see whether Commonwealth is the right environment for you.

Request Information: If you are considering admission for the fall of 2018 and beyond, please fill out an online inquiry form. We will send you more information about Commonwealth and keep in touch about future events.

Attend an Open House: Whether you’re still exploring high school options or you’re set on Commonwealth, we urge you to come to an Open House. While it’s not a required part of the process, visiting informally will give you a chance to check out the school before applying.

Apply: Interested students can apply online. We also offer the option of downloading and printing an application to fill out by hand. The application fee is $50 for U.S. residents and $100 for international applicants. We ask prospective students to apply before interviewing. For information on admission for international students please click here. While our application deadline for fall of 2017 entry has passed, we may consider additional applicants on a case-by-case basis. Please contact our admissions team to discuss your situation.

Interview: Once we receive your application, we will call you to schedule an interview and tour. During this 1 ½-hour visit, prospective students and their families meet with a member of the admissions committee and a current student shows them the school. Deadline: February 1.

Day Visit: After your interview you will return for a full-day visit. Living like a Commonwealth student, you will visit various classes, assemblies and lunch alongside a student host. You will also write two essays (instead of admission essays you would write at home) that become part of your application. Once you complete your day visit, your work is done! Please note that we require international applicants to submit SSAT and/or TOEFL scores before scheduling a day visit. Deadline: February 1.

Additional Materials: Submit transcripts, three school recommendations, and your SSAT (or ISEE) scores. Deadline: February 1.

Commonwealth mails admission decisions on March 10. Students offered admission have until April 10 to respond.
