Admissions Process

At Commonwealth, we’re looking for intellectually curious and creative students from a wide range of backgrounds. We encourage you to visit the school, talk with teachers and students, and see whether Commonwealth is the right environment for you.

Request Information: If you are considering admission for the fall of 2020 and beyond, please fill out an online inquiry form. We will send you more information about Commonwealth and keep in touch about future events.

Attend an Open House: Whether you’re still exploring high school options or you’re set on Commonwealth, we urge you to come to an Open House. While it’s not a required part of the process, visiting informally will give you a chance to check out the school before applying. This year, Commonwealth will host Open Houses on October 1 and November 3.

Apply: Interested students may apply online through Ravenna. We also offer the option of downloading and printing an application to fill out by hand. The application fee is $60 for U.S. residents and $120 for international applicants. For information on admission for international students, please click hereDeadline: January 15 for domestic applicants; December 15 for international applicants.

Interview: We welcome students and parents to visit Commonwealth for a tour and interview. During this 60- to 90-minute visit, prospective students and their families meet with a member of the admissions committee and see the school. For the first part of our season (appointments booked for October 7 through November 15), we offered families the opportunity to interview before applying. Now that we are booked through November 15, we ask that you submit our brief, online application before scheduling an interview. Once we receive this, we will reach out to you to arrange this visit. Our schedule is now open through December 19. Deadline: February 1.

Day Visit: After the interview applicants return for a full-day visit. Living like a Commonwealth student, you will visit various classes, assemblies and lunch alongside a student host. You will also write two essays (instead of admission essays you would write at home) that become part of your application. Once you complete your day visit, your work is done! Please note that we require international applicants to submit SSAT and/or TOEFL scores before scheduling a day visit. Deadline: February 1.

Additional Materials: Submit transcripts, three school recommendations, and your SSAT (or ISEE) scores. Deadline: February 1.

Commonwealth releases admission decisions on March 10. Students offered admission have until April 10 to respond.
