Faculty and Advising
Our teachers are experts in their fields. At Commonwealth, approximately forty percent of our teachers hold doctorates, bringing with them remarkable experience and knowledge in areas like chemistry, international studies, ecology, optics, writing, and jazz.
Many of our faculty have taught at colleges and universities, but they were drawn to Commonwealth by the strength and dedication of our students, the small seminar-like classes, and the chance to help young scholars go farther than they had imagined. They teach students how to find reliable scholarly works and use them in their own original research. And they spend hours in meetings talking with students about essay drafts, concepts that weren’t clear in class, or insights inspired by coursework.
Students also meet one-on-one weekly with their faculty advisors, who help them manage schoolwork, talk through any concerns, and plan their courses of study. The close, supportive relationships between students and the adults with whom they work are at the core of the Commonwealth experience.
