2017: Design Exhibition and Evening

In April 2017, Commonwealth held its first-ever Design Exhibition, showcasing creations from current and former students, parents, and faculty. The event took place at Le Laboratoire, a culture lab and gallery space in Cambridge, Massachusetts, founded by David Edwards P’20. Submissions were evaluated by a team of jurors that included Simeon Bruner P’95, whose firm Bruner / Cott designed MassMoCA and AJ Kassenaar P’06, ’08, Founder and Principal Designer, of SnapDesignLLC, Industrial Design. Designers were asked for evidence of the creative process that lead to design solutions. Featured pieces included a foot-pedaled sanding machine, an air-pop popcorn maker, furniture for all ages, a quantum sports kite, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, and so much more. More than 100 guests enjoyed wine and hors d’oeuvres while perusing the exhibit. The energy and excitement around the talent and creativity of the Commonwealth community was palpable.

The Design exhibition is the fifth bi-annual arts event sponsored by Commonwealth Alumni/ae Association (CWSAA) in the past nine years.

2014: The Mermaid: A Storytelling Event

In the fall of 2014, Commonwealth community members shared true and unscripted stories live on stage at The Burren in Somerville. The stories were told in the manner of The Moth and MassMouth without any notes or prompts. It was such a popular event that the Burren was standing-room only by the time our first storyteller took the stage.

2012: Commonwealth Fall Music Festival

In the fall of 2012, as part of our ongoing series of events highlighting alumni/ae in the arts, we had a rock concert! The lineup included singer/songwriter Jonatha Brooke '81, founding Lemonhead Ben Deily '86 who performed with his current band Varsity Drag, and a set by Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish featuring Jeremy Berlin '80 and guest fiddler (and Jeremy's brother) Josh Berlin '82. The event had everyone up and dancing. See photos on our Facebook page here!

2009: Commonwealth Film Festival

Scores of alumni/ae gusts and filmmakers converged on the School for a two-day festival of screenings and discussions.

2008: The 50th Anniversary

The biggest single event in Commonwealth's history was the celebration of its 50th anniversary. Events included a juried art show at Alpha Gallery and a gala at the Cyclorama. The events were captured in photos and video, much of which is archived online.
