Parent Events and Programs

With our events and initiatives for families, Commonwealth aims to create meaningful connections, foster communication, and provide opportunities to help support Commonwealth's mission. Families are invited to meet throughout the year to hear updates from school leadership, gather feedback about family and student experiences, plan events, and organize volunteers for a variety of opportunities.

Events for Parents/Guardians

Annual events expressly for parents/guardians typically include:

  • New Parent Reception (held in June)
  • Back-to-School Night (held in September)
  • Educational forums
  • The Merrill Series (guest speakers/panels)
  • Art Show Opening and Reception (held in May)
  • Social events, such as picnics and potlucks at school

Details are shared via email and on the school's event calendar.

All-Family Meetings

All Commonwealth parents and guardians are invited to join our quarterly All-Family Meetings, opportunities to ask questions, hear from school staff, and get an inside look into life at Commonwealth. Meetings will be held exclusively virtually via Zoom; please note that the days and times differ to accommodate varied family schedules. Details are shared via email.

All-Family Meetings for the 2024–2025 academic year will occur:

  • Monday, September 30, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parents/guardians and teachers communicate often during the school year, and a student's faculty advisor is the primary point of contact between them and the school. More formal parent-teacher conferences are held throughout the year, providing an opportunity for short one-on-one discussions with most if not all of a student's teachers that year.

  • October 10, 2024 (Thursday): Parent-Teacher Conferences for 12s; Project Week Info Session for Parents of 9s, 10s, 11s
  • November 11, 2024 (Monday): Parent-Teacher Conferences for 9s, 10s, 11s (no classes)
  • February 13, 2025 (Thursday): Parent-Teacher Conferences for 9s and New Students

As conferences approach, parents will receive an email with detailed information about event format and instructions about signing up to meet individual teachers.

Also note that our annual Back-to-School Night, held in mid-September, is another opportunity for families and faculty to connect. Please see our event calendar for more information.
