Prom

Saturday, April 20, 2024
The Colonnade Hotel
7:00–10:00 p.m.

Commonwealth juniors, seniors, and their guests are cordially invited to join us for this year's masquerade-themed prom, a dazzling evening full of dancing, delicious food, and delightful attire.

All juniors and seniors receive a separate invitation (via Paperless Post), whereas parents and guardians receive more information about prom via email, including a link to our required Prom Permission Form.

Prom Permission Form—Required of All Attendees

No student will be admitted to prom without a completed Prom Permission Form on file. This includes both Commonwealth students and guests from other schools. The deadline for parents/guardians to complete the Prom Permission Form is Friday, April 12, 2024.

Complete the Form

Guests

Please note that this is a junior-senior prom. Juniors and seniors are invited to bring one guest, which can be a Commonwealth student in ninth or tenth grade, or a student from another school. We will contact guests’ parents/guardians directly (including those who do not attend Commonwealth) to ensure they complete the permission form on their child’s behalf.

Tickets

Prom is funded largely through tickets, which cost $100 per attendee and include dinner. The families of attendees (juniors, seniors, and underclassmen guests) without financial aid grants will be billed via SmartTuition. If your child brings a guest who does not attend Commonwealth, your bill will reflect a charge for both tickets. Students with financial aid grants will not be charged for their ticket to attend prom, nor will they be charged if they bring a guest who does not attend Commonwealth.

Refreshments

New: A light dinner buffet will be served, with burgers, salads, appetizers, and sweets. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options will be available.

Student Expectations

Though we will discuss expectations for appropriate prom behavior with students at school, we strongly encourage you to do so at home as well. You will find the school’s prom guidelines in our Parent-Student Handbook; our normal expectations of acting with integrity, honesty, and respect for self and others certainly apply to prom as well.

Please note that students may not drive themselves or others to or from prom. The Colonnade Hotel is easily accessible via public transportation and adjacent to the Prudential MBTA Station (Green Line E train).

We also urge you to discuss with your child their post-prom plans and to reach out to families hosting gatherings to ensure that they will be properly supervised. Also see “School Gatherings Outside School (Not Sponsored by the School)” in the Parent-Student Handbook.

Questions?

Please do not hesitate to reach out to our prom advisor, Julia Siegle.

Commonwealth students typically organize a junior-senior prom each spring. The Prom Committee, a group of juniors, plans the entire event, including choosing a location, planning a menu, designing and making decorations, and organizing musical entertainment. Faculty/staff prom advisors help guide the committee to make sure the prom runs smoothly, and adult chaperones volunteer to help at the event.
